Holiday fun

It's no secret that Christmas was never my favorite holiday. With all the rushing and shopping stress, the lousy weather that makes trips take twice as long and the greed evident by spoiled childrens' complaints and their parents' rude driving indicating their self-preference... it can be a bit of a downer sometimes. Sure, there's good things about the holidays too, such as the break, the warmth indoors and the time to spend with people, but often times the negative can effectively swallow up the positives.

This being my first Christmas season in the same locale as Amanda, we have been spending a lot of holiday time together, including Christmas tree hunting yesterday and a trip to Bronner's Christmas Wonderland a couple weeks ago. My first outtake on these ideas was obviously and undeniably not exuberant, but I had promised to make the best face and try to really enjoy this season with Amanda and start a new tradition of enjoying the holidays, relaxing together and celebrating the season. She's been the real encouragement in my life to finally change my tune and I think I've been pretty successful at that. I've had a really good time so far and enjoyed the holiday concert we went to last night (my idea) where Jacob was performing. With finals nearly out of the way, it really feels like the holiday season to me, and I'm excited.
